Occupant and Family Pet rescued from Burning Building

Capt A. Borroto
Palm Beach County, Florida
June 29th , 2012

On June 26, 2012 at 2:19pm Palm Beach County Fire Rescue was called to the 700 block of North B Street in Lake Worth for power lines down. First arriving units discovered an electrified power line lying across the roof of a structure with the structure on fire. Upon further evaluation of the situation it was discovered that the power line had started a fire in two structures not one and that a person may still be inside one home. Crews performed an offensive attack on the fire and rescued one patient at the front door of the smoke filled home. The patient was quickly assessed and transported to a nearby hospital. Prior to leaving the scene she stated that her cat was still inside the home. Crews continued firefighting operations and simultaneously conducted rescue operations to locate the family pet. The family cat was found a short time later inside the structure, under burned belongings, gasping and struggling to breathe. She was brought out to the nearby Rescue truck and given oxygen therapy with a donated PET Oxygen mask kit. After several minutes of oxygen she recovered and her breathing was no longer labored. Prior to crews leaving the scene, the rescued cat was reunited with her grateful and thankful family.
Units that were on this scene were:
E91, E93, E31, R93, R31, DC3, CP2, DC10
